Culture has been telling women one of two stories for a long time. The first says her value is found in a man, that her identity belongs behind him. The second says she doesn't need anyone (especially a man); that independence is strength and dependence is weakness. Most women I know have been shaped by one or the other. And both stories are wrong.

In this final week of our Knotted series, we open Genesis 2 and discover that the creation of woman wasn't about filling a gap in Adam. It was about something much larger. The Hebrew word translated "helper" in Genesis 2:18 is ezer, and it appears 21 times in the Old Testament. Sixteen of those times it refers to God himself. This is not a word for weakness or assistance. It's a word for indispensable, life-carrying strength. And when we understand what God was doing in the creation of Eve, everything changes about how we read this passage and how we understand the value and purpose of women in God's design.

Watch this full message to explore what ezer really means, why God said "it is not good" before the fall, what the Hebrew word kenegdo tells us about the face-to-face position God designed for marriage, and how the gospel restores what sin distorted. This message has been sitting with me since I preached it. The idea that the word God uses to describe the woman is the same word he uses to describe himself throughout the Old Testament, that's not a small thing. It changes everything about how we read Genesis 2.

What stood out most to you from this message? Are you navigating one of those two false narratives right now? Drop it in the comments. I'd love to hear where this lands for you.

If this encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to hear it this week.
